The V.I.C.E Model

The New Forest has long been a place for visitors attracted to the majestic landscape and natural beauty. The council operates tourism destination management according to the VICE model of sustainable tourism Tourism can no longer be regarded solely as a local, regional or even national issue, it is global.

The implications of this for New Forest District are profound. On the one hand we need a prosperous tourism industry to sustain jobs and the local economy, on the other, environmental and social pressure from increased numbers of visitors could undermine the quality of life and the resources on which the industry itself depends.

Our aim is for the New Forest to become a tourism destination where the visitor, tourism industry, local community and environment are in complete harmony, and thus make a significant contribution to improving the quality of all life; Visitor, Industry, Community and Environment:

Destination aims- the VICE Model

  • Visitor -  encouraging visitors to be forest-friendly

  • Industry - keeping industry profitable and responsible

  • Community - maximising community benefits

  • Environment - putting the forest first
